I’ve already touched on this: gyms are losing terrain in favor of at-home workouts likely permanently, as gym demand will shed by 14-22 % at least.
WSJ’s review of the Peloton Bike+ is not the first review of online fitness options that makes them a better choice than going to the gym or fitness studio. It makes lesser and lesser sense to keep a gym membership when online programs are so good and when prorated they cost as much, or less, than a gym membership. So Peloton Bike+ at $2,495 and them $39/month seems expensive…Or is it ?
“The bike+ can be financed at $64/month (the traditional model at $49/month). Add $39 for the connected membership, and I’m at $103/month. That’s $18 more than my Life Time Fitness membership- which includes more weights, bikes, treadmills, sauna benches and mouthwash than I could ever used. BUT…
…on a family plan…If my wife and I both worked out with it, the individual cost is $51.50 a month. If my children started using it regularly, the per-workout cost could get down as low as $2.”
John D. Stoll, WSJ, October 18th, 2020
The Bike+ has a 24-inch screen and a 360-degree swivel feature. Stoll says that much of Peloton features can be had with a few other bikes on the market that are less expensive: NordicTrack’s $2,000 S22i Studio Cycle and Echelon’s $1600 EX55.
A lot of people, I guess, will never go back to the gym -even after the pandemic is over.
