There aren’t many blogs dedicated to men’s self-improvement left in the world. Even less so blogs written by finance professionals. Since years ago, I subscribe to the updates to two blogs [left] that define their space, one is David Asprey’s and another Michael Syding’s, the former [and more recently, active] European Hedge Fund manager of the Year. Of course, Asprey of Bulletproof Diet became famous years ago and has a sizable (in the millions) following, he’s been known as the “Number One biohacker” for years. His eight books [I believe they’re eight, but I could be wrong] are all exceptional reads, I recommended them all and even did a book of his review couple of years ago.

Syding’s latest newsletter post, How the World Work, is very rich in theosophical and existential treaties. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Obviously, I can’t reproduce it here, but he’s keen on *meetings* being the core of everything and consciousness, not matter or time, is what defines existence. [I spoke about the non-existence of time already back in 2019]. Karl-Mikhael Syding ends up signing his newsletter with the title “Aspiring Sheng-Jen”. According to the Oxford dictionary, a Sheng Jen is in China, one who hears the way of Heaven (Tʾien) and develops understanding, often translated as ‘sage’. Sheng-jen is therefore the ideal wise person who penetrates the hidden meaning of all things and lives accordingly.”

This year, I brought to your attention the Indian mystic Sadhguru . I hope you’ve read my book review of his latest book weeks earlier, and that contemporary mystic Sadhguru has inspired you.

In the beginning was a field…Syding says. Not the Big Bang. What happens is human mind can only perceive snapshots, beginnings and ends, labels. These are our limitations. Past, future. Snapshots of the human mind.

I see this “field” as emanating from the present. The future is made now…and so is the past. Poor human snapshots of reality the mind of the common folk is unable to grasp. The Universe is marching towards its end as well as towards its “beginning” concurrently, because there is no “beginning” or “end” to begin with.

In the Zone (Sadhguru’s latest short video) with former rugby player Jonny Wilkinson, CBE.

It seems that every time I write about HBS, the more I get attacked. The WSJ did a piece on Harvard’s Yacht parties last weekend: The Ultimate M.B.A. Networking Event? A Yacht Party in Croatia. (they don’t get attacked, since journalism on that scale can’t be silenced). The folks who spends thousands on these parties (“Yacht Week” brought in $13 million! to the organizer, an outfit by the name of Day 8) are mostly freshmen. It’s not just Harvies, but Tuckies and others, too (Tuckies would be students at Tuck School of Business, Darmouth).

“The number of MBA-dedicated yachts expanded from 12 in 2019 to 95 in 2021, according to Day 8. These year there were 42 M.B.A. boats carrying roughly 500 people, according to the company. HBS students alone booked 28 yachts that took part in the festivities, up from 20 in 2021. Photos posted on Instagram last month showed some Yacht Week attendees in matching white hats with the HBS crest and a sailboat. Students from Stanford’s Graduate School of Business and Tuck came aboard, too, according to Day 8.”

Becoming a member at these clubs might take some time. Zero Bond [a 22,000 square foot private membership club in the heart of Noho] relies heavily on recommendations from current members in adding to its membership roll. Mr. Sartiano declined to say how many members he has but said Zero Bond has about 8,000 members on its waiting list.

NeueHouse earns about 35% of its revenue from membership fees, with the rest coming from brand partnerships, private events and its restaurants and bars, according to Chief Executive Josh Wyatt.

Fully supporting LGBT and my forward-looking statement of the population sexual dynamics

I wanted you to know that here we are fully supportive of the LGBT Community and inclusive of all: non-binary and X-gender. Perhaps one of the most notable trends seen in the last decade is the increase in the “non-binary” and “genderfluid” population while the gay population stayed relatively constant, around 6%. “Hijras” are officially recognized as third gender in countries in the Indian subcontinent, being considered neither completely male nor female. “Hijras have a recorded history in the Indian subcontinent from antiquity as suggested by the Kama Sutra.” (Wikipedia). Years ago I very briefly mentioned here that the Angels, at least the Christian concept of them, are androgynous. Gender identity in “genderfluid” as well as sexual preference (two different things) can change throughout life. We don’t really know how many men are bisexual (“men might believe they’ll suffer a higher social cost for identifying as bisexual”) but we do know a huge percentage of women identify as bisexual (25% of young black women in the U.S. and 10.1% of white women in the U.S., according to the Conversation). These percentages will only increase.

We are aware that the marriage rates are falling, in fact in the U.S. the marriage rate is the lowest in at least 150 years. We consider marriage to be an outdated institution, and monogamy to be a myth. Men and women living together don’t just get bored, they were not meant to live together. Lock a cat and a mouse together and see what happens. The marriage rate should still be falling and get into a trough from which it will not recover. Most years-long marriages are marriages of convenience where the parties are anything but happy.

I believe sex is the basis, the only basis, for a healthy relationship between adults: a man and a woman, a man and a man, a woman and a woman -their choice. The hierarchy that is emerging is as ancient as the foraging primates order: it is centered around sexual ability and functionality. The younger women in their prime will have their “harems” and should not be precluded from exercising their options, and the men who are in their “prime” -knowing fully their peak extends beyond their ’30s, ’40s, and for some into their ’50s -will have theirs. I surmise they’ll be fewer women’s harems -not because they won’t have enough sign-ups, but simply because women are less sexual than men. Women have considerably less desire, need and proclivity for sex than men do. They’ll be quite a few gay and X-gender harems I imagine.

What makes a woman attractive ? Is it just looks ? It probably is, even though your household media machine is saying otherwise. What makes a man attractive ? Is it just looks ? It probably isn’t, even though your household media machine is faltering again with crap like romance and “sensitivity”.

The myth of men and women needing each others for companionship into old age

We reject the [false] construct of growing old together.

We see better outcomes from men forging companionship with other men -younger men- as they grow into old age. Likewise, better outcomes for the women who stay close to other women (younger than themselves) as they grow into old age. Men are their Tribe. Women are another. Again, keep in mind there isn’t much keeping men and women together other than sex.

Over-investment in progeny

Over investment in kids is possibly the biggest obstacle to self-development, and that investment rarely lasts for only 18 years (if anyone here has 18 years to waste away, let us know). Generational wealth is an engine for wealth inequality as well as economic waste (guy who’s got it all won’t be working as hard as the father and grandfather did). But what about my kids ? Think of children ! No kidding. How about children will be children and have a 24-hour kindergarden, then 24-hour school…etc. Kids belong with the kids. Kids should be spending more time with their own anyway. That’s their Tribe. Yes, but they’re helpless. They’re helpless until about 6- 7 years old. About the time women feel the need to get rid of their old man. If you haven’t exited by then, if you’re still married…joke’s on you.

Until next time,

Your Man,

Max Cantor

If you’ve been following this blog for awhile, you know I have have an interest in the metaphysical.

  • The worst you can do is follow the news.
  • The best you can do is stay away from the news.
  • Information in this digital age is, in a way, a virus

I’ve already talked about the mistake of underestimating the economic disastrous effects of the quarantine, the second (economic) curve which IS NOT an epidemiological curve (the one that follows the spread of the virus). So this is not what we are going to be talking about today.

What if, this virus, or any virus, is seen as what it is, an energy signature ?

If you’re laughing at “energy signatures”, nuclear medicine is a field based on “energy signatures”.

After all, we humans, have infected and arguably are at the point of destroying the Earth. Some will say humanity is the worst infection on Earth that ever was. [not that I necessarily agree with that]. From outer space, modern civilization even looks like a cancer spread out over this planet…

I reckon after this is over -over generations – this virus DNA will become part of your [future] human DNA.

[suggested reading: Rats are New-Yorkers, too.]

From that perspective, we are only fighting our future selves. We are always fighting ourselves.

Some people say thoughts are a form of energy. But they can’t elaborate on it. We’ll leave it at that.

If the virus could talk, it wouldn’t overpower the hosts. (Why self-destroy ?)

The virus wants to find a new host, the host fights it, and…

Can’t we all just get along ?

If you didn’t have something that it wants, the virus wouldn’t be banging at your door. Simple logic just scares people out of their wits. I wonder why any scientists haven’t studied the original animals who had passed on the virus (pangolins, bats or whatever). See what kind of a deal have those bats cut with the virus.

Back to metaphysics: Is your “energy signature” hospitable/attractive to this virus ?

All things, including humans, have a certain vibration. Your geniuses at Harvard even mapped it out.

What makes for a hospitable host ? Inhospitable host ?

Are you “syncing up” with the virus ? [Side read: The Hippies were right: It’s all about vibration, Man , Tam Hunt, Dec. 5, 2018]

But that’s for another time.

Until next time,

Max

Last week The NY Times had an Oped about Near-Death Experiences: N.D.E.s, Are ‘Near-Death Experiences’ Real ? by John Martin Fischer (Feb 13th, 2020).

“For instance, the religious figures may be different — a Christian would see Christian figures, a Buddhist would see Buddhist figures, Hindu gods and goddesses would appear in a Hindu’s N.D.E., and so forth…”

J. M. Fischer

For J.M. Fisher, the big question is: “Do N.D.E.s provide a proof of heaven? Or hell?”

J.M. fisher, who is a Professor of Philosophy at the University of California, Riverside concludes:

“Most N.D.E.s depict a journey toward an imagined guarded realm, but not a successful passage to it. Just as in the literature on living forever, such as the ancient “Epic of Gilgamesh” or myth of Tantalus or the quixotic search for the Fountain of Youth, we come ever so close, but in the end we don’t quite make it. In N.D.E.s we get right to the gates, but we don’t go through; we get right to the edge of the universe, but we stop there.”

I have never had a N.D.E. Here is what I think about them:

  1. Life after death is a stupid concept. However, the concept of mindful dying is valid, just as mindful living is.
  2. Possible explanation of what people describe as “the light” at the end of the tunnel [a vision shared among many N.D.E. subjects]: the quantification of life into energy.

via GIPHY

3. I agree with the conclusion of many who say you relive your entire life in seconds or milliseconds., smashing the idea there is something as time.

4. The N.D.E.s are not life as we know it, but they are not death either, something Professor Fisher goes along with.

5. The Akashic Records may well be a valid thing. How do you access them: there’s no simple answer to give.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF1W4bWA7DE

6. To answer the question, “What is Consciousness” we can start by asking: what is not consciousness ? Consciousness is not mind…

7. As Richard Kelley says in his interview, Is there a God is a rather moot point.

8. What’s the reason for being here ? “It’s just part of the drama. If we saw everything that we’re doing, we would know we’re not here.” – Richard Kelley

9. “While you were doing doing the dream, you had no idea it was a dream. Same thing here. It’s the other way around.” -RK

10. To find “peace” without going through a N.D.E. you can start by accepting that your life is a movie already produced, script and stuff, scene-by-scene, take-by-take. Watch it as the spectator in the theater seat. You will find yourself in the spectator seat sooner or later. Think about it: if you accept there is a God, isn’t God [already] the one watching your movie from his seat ? Probably got his Cola and popcorn, too…

Over 6 years ago when John Lefevre @GSElevator wrote the The Unofficial Goldman Sachs Guide To Being A Man, we laughed at it. The Guide became popular because it is insolent and gumptious and full of self-reverie.

It is time that someone wrote a real guide not only for the men working in the investment industry but for all men who aren’t jokers. I mean, you can listen to the Joker (Boris Brejcha) which I do even in this post. But don’t make your life a caricature. So this list was born. There aren’t 99 Rules in this list, but we’d like to aim for a good-measure number (69 would do it).

1. Marriage is OUT.

In the past decade, marriage has has become the rawest, worst deal for men in America and the West altogether. Marriage is an outdated institution with laws giving women the upper hand, no man with some self-esteem should walk that dark alley. (70% of divorces are initiated by women, and that number climbs higher, to 90% for college-educated women).

2. Social media is poison, and even if you’ve joined Twitter (dada: Twatter) you know by now it’s a garbage cesspool.

3. If your girlfriend is an Instagram person, you’ve got a coochie bug.

Not worth it !

4. Learn to cook for a change. It’s one of the essential skills a man needs to have.

5. The Modern Woman doesn’t need protection from anything really, it is you who need protection from women.

You can fill in the blanks…from __, ___.__

6. When in doubt, leave her. Don’t fall for the fallacy of sunk costs.

7. Alcohol is another thing that is OUT. In is milk who does a body good.

You will stand out if you don’t drink at a party.

8. No matter what Silicon Valley vampires tell you, you can still make a good impression if you’re wearing fashionable shoes and a great watch.

9. Lunch and dinner etiquette: eat light. When you eat a heavy meal, your energy is diverted to digesting it, making you sloppy and slow-thinking and acting. Never eat full.

10. Try to get laid on a first date. If you can do that with some frequency you’ll be a winner at everything eventually. It’s the War of the Sexes that must be won first.

11. Do have a Wall of Fame with canvas pictures of good-looking exes framed in your bedroom.

Your girlfriend must know where you come from.

12. NEVER buy dinner to woman you haven’t f****ed.

13. Hookers can be some of the most sincere women in the world, because they put a price on something that too often is overpriced.

14. Women nowadays are seriously overvaluing themselves. Even the ugliest of women looks good in some pictures. You need to give those women some space.

15. She’s not as important as you think she is.

16. For the married lads: now what ?

You’re slowly descending into mediocrity and you know it, what do you do ? The clock is running: tick-tock-tick. Your pal suggests you try a threesome…should you ? Would you ? Yes. Threesomes are in. MFF. Three is a magic number. There are three in the Holy Scripture. “Friends, Romans, Countrymen” -three in William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. Mind, body and spirit -three.

17. The way you handle your boss is the same way you train a dog.

You give it a treat when he behaves and withdraw attention when he misbehaves. For more info, make sure you get your BOU (The “Alpha Male Bible” ).What does is look to be at the top of your game ?

18. With your girlfriends, may you have many and plenty all your life, always experiment. Women do not like being bored. Remember, life is an adventure.

19. Be her immutable, solid rock. Stay firm and rooted and don’t let the tides of life blow you away. That is the essence of being a man.

20. Always have time slots during the day when you are unreachable (no phone or internet connection).

Your own time away from everybody. As you get older and wiser, so do the “unreachable” times are getting larger.

21. The best pick-up line in the world: “Tell me something about you that I don’t already know.”

22. The Second best pick-up line in the world: “Lady, when I’m deep asleep I am 10X smarter than you are. Now, you were saying…”

23. Any woman in a man’s life is replaceable.

Women know this instinctively, as demonstrated by their propensity to pursue taken men. A man that’s taken -married or not- is seen more attractive to them than a single man.

24. “Only one woman in the world exists in the world, one woman with countless faces.” -Nikos Kazantzakis, 1952

25. The key to a woman’s heart is hidden in plain sight.

26. Talking about keys, the key to your career that will open the biggest doors is called envy.

27. Word on the Street is that being a feminist is the key to the heavens. I’m taking that advice to the bank.

28. If you have an overbearing, bad woman boss, what do you do ?

Well, if you’re married, say: “Tell that to my wife”, then hand over your phone to the boss. If you’re not married, say: “It’s not easy being green.”

So this happened: the new decade swooped in… and we have to make it to 69. Let’s get some more music in before we do that…

29. 2020s, a new decade ? Welcome to 2010 is more like it. With the passage of time, the worst of the old gets a facelift.

30. The Big Guns favor themselves. They love themselves so much, they came to with the idea of gender parity goals because…what’s better than cutting the nip in the buds ?

31. There’s no such thing as a bad woman boss.

Did you write that on your office whiteboard yet ?

32. Happiness without money doesn’t exist, but money without happiness sometimes does happen.

33. True gender equality at work will not be achieved until all women dress up exactly like men..or men dress up exactly like women.

34. Sample far and wide.

And by sampling I don’t mean food, I mean flings. I’ve had flings hailing from 18 different nations and four continents. To some that’s a low diversity number. Well, put me to shame. As far as I can tell, the farther they are from your original ethnicity, the more interesting things can get. Hop on the diversity bandwagon.

35. Women, as far as we can tell, divide men into two categories: Cads and Dads.

Sometimes Cads become Dads. These are the sad bunch. Score +1 Women to -1 Men. Very rarely do Dads become Cads. Women really hate that.

36. When Dads become Cads, women label it with the misnomer of “Midlife Crisis”.

37. I second the popular truth voiced elsewhere that people in position of power are more likely to cheat regardless of sex.

38. You can’t take a lady to the water park without getting her dress wet. You might as well not go at all.

39. Romance isn’t cheap, they say. I say there’s no romance to buy or sell.

40. On a TSA security check-up recently, while they were patting me down, I said: Oh, yes ! Harder ! Feel that round firm tights.

41. The most useful text message in the book of texting:

“I’ll take care of u” then hours later (5 hours or more) “when u’re ready” …more time lapse (one or more hours later)…”u horny ?”

They key here is to send this texting sequence hours apart…It make the hamster go full 5200 rpm.

This hamster is spinning

42. Own an emblazoned tie and cufflinks.

43. When you have bragging rights, write a book.

44. Scale it up and own the rights to a movie.

45. Your last breakup should be your ticket to freedom, as in more more lays and layaways.

What are you sad about, then ?

46. A woman doesn’t love you until she cries for you.

Ah, what about crocodile tears, I heard… Did you get a lighter and threaten to burn up her shoes ? Are you telling me those tears aren’t real ?

47. If you take up DJ-ing on the side, you’ll either become the CEO of Goldman Sachs or get more lays, but not both.

48. Ledger book love is overrated.

49. The difference between a wife’s and a concubine’s love is 5,000 feet and counting, with the concubine’s being the greatest (highest).

Both men and women know that instinctively.

50. Those who cheat, win. Take that to the bank.

51. The cheat codes are in the winners DNA.

Examples: A pretty woman will, in all likelihood, cheat. A smart person..will cheat. That doesn’t mean that ugly ones and dumb people don’t cheat, however.

52. Trying to cheat is NOT cheating. Cheating is NOT getting caught. If you get caught -that is not cheating. Every winner knows that.

53. When your woman says F.U., you got fucked a long time ago.

Women see their SMV (Sexual Market Value) plummet as they age (around 35 although some say is even earlier) while men’s, generally speaking, is on an upswing.

54. The Trivers-Willard hypothesis (gTWH) suggests that physically more attractive parents are more likely to have daughters than physically less attractive parents. Hence, women are the more beautiful sex.

The geniuses who have daughters plus half of China are now going to think they fall under the “attractive” category. Don’t hold your breath.

55. Women who cheat far outnumber the men who cheat.

56. In our progressive society, women hold the power while blaming and shaming men for having it.

57. The Mastery Key is unlocked when a man lives of a woman. In the guest house. A struggling actor can pull that off.

58. The key to getting a model is modeling for her.

59. There is no “cure” to cheating. Stop treating it like a disease. It is not. It is a feature.

60. Should a man who got a better job, a higher paying job, upgrade his wife ? By all means. If he was smart enough, he wasn’t married to begin with.

61. What makes a marriage strong: a healthy age difference between the man and the woman, where the man is considerably older than the woman.

Also, drop the monogamy garbage to the site curb where it belongs.

62. Older men are better than younger men.

Both men and women agree to it or they feign disagreement.

63. They say a woman’s loyalty is tested when her man has nothing while a man’s loyalty is tested when he has everything.

It is mostly the women who have everything…

64. The smartest way to deal with haters is to call them out: Yo’, women…

And put out some Lady Gaga lyrics:

I can’t wait to smoke them all
Whole pack like Marlboro
Blow it in your face, blow it in your face
Blow it in your, blow it in your face

I can’t wait to rev you up
Faster than you can say Ferrari
Tearin’ up the gravel, watch you unravel
Now it’s a party
…” -Source: Lady Gaga, A-Yo song, Joanna album

65. Women’s greatest fear is that they are no longer desired.

Their fallout is inevitable because beauty is perishable. That’s why we don’t invest in beauty with marriage.

66. Another friendly exchange:

You: What are you thinking ? Her: This, that.

You: Good, because I don’t have you thinking about my crotch all the time.

67. The hamster feeds into darkness. Feed it into darkness.

Few will understand this. Is that hamster splitting atoms by now ?

68. Instacrap + Facetoilet + Twatter = Let the simping GAMES begin !

Are you simping today ?

69. The higher-ups pull the ladder up behind you.

With the abundance of geniuses who are also triathletes and meditators, rowers and God-knows-what, it’s become extremely difficult to stand out. Fortunately you have the backhanded compliments.

Poll

On Valentine’s Day, I will gift my girlfriend(s):
1. A bag of sunflower seeds (I’m a healthy guy)
2. A Frisbee
3. A nicely wrapped condom
4. I’m simping lightly: wine and roses

I don’t have an economics or a policy overview blog here. I rarely if ever talk about economic and social policies: it’s boring to me. If you want a good economics blog, head over to Mauboussin Report, Calculated Risk and others.

The old statement about the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, it’s true, however. And there’s nothing you or I can do about it. Or should. And it does not matter who is in charge, whether conservatives or liberals lead the nation, whether Trump stays on or we get a Democrat President next term.

The reasons behind this phenomena, whether it is momentum to blame for it, bureaucracies, they don’t interest me. You may have read through this recent Wall Street Journal article, Democrats’ Emerging Tax Idea: Look Beyond Income, Target Wealth as well as older articles, for example this one from the L.A. Times, Policies helping the rich get richer and the poor poorer, report says. Or better yet, read this book, The Collapse of Complex Societies by Joseph Tainter (1988).

Income inequality will widen in the coming years and decades.

I firmly believe in that trend, and again, it matters not who comes to govern and what policies they adopt. Good news, bad news ?

I was sitting at a bar recently sipping a drink, and I noticed the drink coaster: Is it better to be rich or stupid ? Interesting choice, I thought. So many people are both…these two are not exclusive…Well, I don’t envy “the rich”, at least those that I know who are richer that I they’re not smarter than me.

The same needs drive the rich and the poor. Well, to some extent. The poor don’t really do much virtue-signalling, perhaps because they worry about living paycheck-to-paycheck too much. Rich folk live for the next excitement, the next experience…what do I live for, I thought.

Same thing. Or better. Better be careful when I get advice from the rich…where they don’t have their livelihoods at stake. Note to self: the *rich* don’t think of themselves rich, they’re just out there making the world a better place. Sort of what I do.

Except I make myself a better man. Well, enough of this non-sense about the rich and the poor and let’s to the meat of it.

“Power isn’t just having choices. Power is being able to decide whether you must choose at all. You can have your husband and little family -and your lover in the tower. And you can extend your authority, and have your word obeyed.” – Edell Vrai

Let’s ask these questions, then:

1. How much control do you have over your choices ?

2. Are your *choices* made by other people ?

3. How important are other people in your life ? (perhaps this question should have come before, at number two), and,

4. Out of your choices and decisions, how often you hit the bullseye, because if you don’t hit it often, you need to become a better shooter. (I refer here to bullseye as the right choice long term).

Now, that is something to work with.
