The storming of the Capitol building last week is the news of the year, and certainly made America look like a 3rd world country.

The nitwits on those Capitol steps are nothing more than pawns. If you want to look who’s behind it, look no further than the angels with the deepest pockets: America’s oligarch class: its’ CEOs. Those angels of hope and misery who have donated to Trump PACs are the workers behind the scenes.

“Still, many large companies have not announced a change. (And other companies, like Goldman Sachs and Google’s parent, have announced a pause on all political donations — a move that seems designed to prevent public criticism while also not angering politicians who supported attempted election fraud.)

McDonald’s and the tobacco company Altria, which are among the top 20 donors to McCarthy, the House Republican leader, have not announced a halt on donations to any Congress members. Neither has Bank of America (a major donor to Scott), although it said it would “review its decision making.”

Andrew Ross Sorkin, NY Times, 1/12/2021
"The American Banking Association, for example, was among the top donors to the Republican objectors to the election result, and it currently has no plan to pause its donations." -NY Times

Finance industry trade groups like the American Investment Council and the Investment Company Institute have also halted all political donations, and lenders like Deutsche Bank and Signature Bank are cutting ties to the Trump family business.- NYT

Trump has proven too virulent for their goals, for the moment. It’s only a moment of time before memory fades and they put their money on another jockey. (friendly reminder: corporate donations are only a small percentage of political contributions: most come from wealthy individuals).

I’m speaking out today 10 Max Cantor “maxims”. I know I’ve slipped a few of those gold nuggets in previous posts, will not be repeating those. I’m sure you can find them if you try. To simplify here, we’ll start off at number one.

The World is full of ass*oles and THEY RULE the world. -Max Cantor maxim #1

If you don’t know how to bring the fight home to those ass*oles, you’re an ass yourself. -Max Cantor maxim #2
You might as well go into a ditch and feel sorry for yourself.
If you knew how to lead you wouldn’t have a boss. -Max Cantor maxim #3
The reason you have a boss is because you are inadequate to lead.
You are ALWAYS replaceable to your boss-Max Cantor maxim #4
Your skillset is. Your portfolio is. Your entire background is. Everything about you is easily, if not practically, reproduced and replaced. But, but I’m a scientist and I won four awards. Doesn’t matter !

You should end your “love” relationship with your boss before he does it.- Max Cantor maxim #5
What that means is he/she becomes inadequate in the relationship first.  Even if you like/love your boss understand the liking is only temporary. Boss-underling relationships are not unlike love “amorous” relationships in that they have courtship, honeymoon, plateau and falling out phases.

When your boss drains your energy, he/she becomes a major liability in your life.- Max Cantor maxim #6

Your boss is there to make him/herself happy, not to make you happy. -Max Cantor maxim #7
To your boss, you’re a means to an end.

Bosses, not unlike drug addicts, are “high” on their own control. -Max Cantor maxim #8

Bosses do not see the world like you do. They live in their own world. They are “high” on their own supply of control. You’ve never had that high until you’ve become your own boss. You’ve never had that high until you’ve had  applause cascading all over you, praise, acclaims, ovations and eulogies.

The worst thing a person can do is put a boss on a pedestal.
Don’t do it.-Max Cantor maxim #9

Every boss has his insecurities. Your job is to discover and cultivate them. -Max Cantor maxim #10
I’m sure this is something you’re seen and read before. A quick note here: if your boss likes alcohol, for example, she is an alcoholic. That’s a weakness, not an insecurity. Intelligent people for the most part are aware of their weaknesses and try to stay clear of them. Insecurities, on the other hand, are less obvious to those that have them.  An example of insecurity is the fear of being late, or the fear of interpreting a simple thing like an Income Statement. Your boss may not even be aware of it.
We’ll wrap it up for today, but not before clarifying that when your boss talks about leadership, you should take it with a grain of salt. If you have a lousy boss, you could even take everything in reverse (i.e. NOT do as he says, do in reverse of what she says). Your boss is not lecturing on “leadership” but on “followership” [sic]. If there was such a word as “followership” it will be what you do when you train your dog. You don’t train your dog to lead you, do you ? You train your dog to follow and obey.
